Large 'Apothecary' Bottle in handbuilt porcelain by Jessica Thorn.
One of the focuses of Jessica's pieces is the ability a handmade object has to allow an everyday ritual become more pleasurable. With this in mind Jessica has designed and made a collection of functional and decorative pieces based around the theme ‘Still life’.
Each piece is individually slab-built with porcelain, focusing on form and showing off the pure quality of the ceramic. The process of the work is driven by Jessica's belief of the value and importance of celebrating craftsmanship within handmade objects. Jessica illustrates this through her elusive joining technique, leaving a stitch like line and a trail of maker’s marks. Creating valued one-off pieces is essential for Jessica to celebrate making by hand and the hand-made culture in Britain.
This piece is in white porcelain with dark blue joining detail. The interior of the vessel is glazed so could function as a vase if so required.
